Proprietor of "The Houghton," the leading hotel of Sidaw, Michagan. He also deals in harvesters, mowers, discdrills, buggies, carts, plows, and harrows. In short he is a "hustler" (Severance, B. Frank. Genealogy and biography of the descendants of Walter Stewart of Scotland and of John Stewart who came to America in 1718 and settled in Londonderry, N.H. Greenfield, Mass. : T. Morey & Son, 1905, pg. 155).

The 1910 census shows a daughter Marie, age 19, along with sons H.C. Rex age 18 and Deane G., 13. However their first daughter, also Marie, died Sept. 1891 and H.C. Rex was born December 1891, meaning the mother Josephine was already pregnant with H.C. Rex when the first Marie died three months earlier. There would appear to be no time for a second Marie to have been born in the interim. It is slightly possible that the first Marie was born August 5, 1890, a second daughter born March 1891, then the son H.C. Rex born premature, seven months, later; with the parents changing the name of the second daughter to Marie after the first one died. Or, the second Marie may have been adopted.
